7 Tips For The Perfect Harley Quinn Cosplay
  |

Critical reviews aside, Suicide Squad is wildly popular, particularly the character of Harley Quinn as portrayed by Margot Robbie. She is much more than just the insane girlfriend of Joker; she’s standing on her own two feet as a fearless dissident with an iconic, unforgettable look (which many are imitating through cosplay).

With New York Comic-Con and Halloween coming up, throngs of people will be visiting costume stores to dress as Harley Quinn, but lucky for you, I’ve done all the research for you! I’ll be covering the con as HQ herself and have decided to review what I found on the road to NYCC.

An authentic, quality ensemble is at your fingertips, but you may have to act fast! October is almost here and time is running out. See below for my 7 Tips For The Perfect Harley Quinn Cosplay, complete with photos of me modeling the items.

1. BlingSoul”YES SIR” Bracelets and “PUDDIN” Choker

“YES SIR” Bracelets
“PUDDIN” Choker
I got the three different options (white, gold, and purple) for the choker and they are great! It’s much more economical to get the bundle, and then you can switch it up like I will be doing at New York Comic-Con. There is one set of gold letters spelling “PUDDIN” that is easily removed and attached. The chokers are thick yet flexible and are adjustable to your neck size. The “Yes Sir” cuffs are even better than I imagined! There are little gold letters for each cuff (one with “YES” and one with “SIR”). They are a brilliant purple and have different options for wrist size (I have pretty small wrists and I’m glad they have tighter options, too).

The company also sells your favorite cosplay suits for men (think Doctor Who and James Bond) at JBsuits.com. They also have a Harley Quinn costume DIY guide.

2. SPRDIT Temporary Tattoo Bundle

SPRDIT Temporary Tattoo Bundle
Easy and cute, these temporary tattoos are perfect for Harley Quinn. They include all of the tattoos from the movie (even the heart)! These are affordable and a no-brainer. Simple instructions are included on the back of each tattoo sheet. Voila! Plus, a new line of ultra-rad adult Harley Quinn temporary tattoos are coming out October 1! Visit their website at cosplaytats.com.

3. Dilly Duds Harley Shorts

Dilly Duds Harley Shorts
How do I start with these Dilly Duds Harley Quinn shorts? They are MAGNIFICENT and magical and perfect. Can I wear them to work? What’s that? They violate the dress code policy?! Back to the matter at hand. These are expertly made by hand and are very high quality. They are my favorite part of the costume right now. And I was a little worried, because I wanted the Harley look without my love handles or bum for the world to see. These are true to size — I gave my measurements and a size Medium was recommended. I’m usually between a Small and Medium for bottoms. I got two pairs: high-waisted with an inch or two longer on the legs, and mid-rise with a bit shorter length. Both pairs covered what I wanted concealed and are comfortable and cute! The high-waisted were in a Large, which definitely give a bit of extra room at the waist, but are stretchy. A size or two up would work if you want lots of room, but I am confident that Dilly Duds will answer your questions and place your size appropriately. There is no possible way you will get a better pair of these shorts, and for the price. GET THEM.

Visit Dilly Duds on Etsy, Amazon, or Facebook.

4. Wig from God’s Hand

[I look like a psychopath here, so I know Harley would be proud.]

Wig from God’s Hand
Back to the wig. It’s made from “God’s Hand.” Need I say more? Okay, I will. This light blonde wig is gorgeous and high drama! It’s a light sandy blonde (not quite platinum like Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad, although I knew that going in). I love that the pigtails are clip-in pieces; there’s always the option of just using the ponytails! The wig is really full as it was the 17.7 inch one, but the golden blonde one seems shorter and a bit more manageable. The hair is thick and not too shiny. I used hair chalk to get the color in and that worked like a charm. The company was also really great to work with! You can find the product online here in Golden Blonde. It’s Prime eligible!

5. Edge Stix Rainbow Blendable Hair Color and Face Paint from KC Republic

Edge Stix Metallic and Rainbow Blendable Hair Color; Face Paint
As I mentioned above, the Edge Stix by LAC Beauty Supply were perfect for the wig! They get a little messy, naturally, but it washes out very easily. I got both the Metallic and the Rainbow, and I would recommend getting both, as you may need colors from both. As advertised, they blend really nicely, so you can use it on a strand and then blend around with your fingers. I used the pink metallic and the lighter blue from the rainbow set for my pigtails. The cool part is that you can also use it on your face and body! I am definitely going to try the blue and pink for my Harley face makeup! Cool! The best part is they wash out easily, whether with soap and water, or when you shampoo your hair. The face paint comes with tiny brushes that are good for small designs; not really larger areas, but I tried on my eyelids and it worked pretty well.

6. “Daddy’s Lil Monster” Shirt(s)

I got two “Daddy’s Lil Monster” baseball tees and although they are not exact to the design from the movie, they definitely do the trick. Plus, they are from Etsy shops. Support small businesses!

[Here I am with my adorable dog, Sophie. Does she look scared?]

Bosque Apparel Shirt
This shirt is true to size. I got a Small and it has a nice shape; not too tight, but fitted and feminine. It is slightly ribbed, which I normally avoid, but it’s subtle. I’m choosing to tie it in the back because I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to be super authentic and cut/rip it. It’s just so nice, I would hate to! My interactions with this company were great. I can’t recommend highly enough!

CloneThing Shirt
This shirt is light cotton and very comfortable (see photo just above). It is a relaxed fit, so it is a bit looser than the Bosque shirt. For wearing around, I definitely like this size, but if you want something a little more fitted, I would size down. I got a Small, but probably could have gotten an Extra Small. Still, it’s well-made and cozy, which is all you can ask for.

7. Glitz & Glam Handmade Jacket

Glitz & Glam Handmade Jacket
This little number is a gem. The shop owner was responsive to my questions and the Glitz & Glam Harley Quinn Handmade Jacket came in fairly quickly. The only thing to note is that if you want to order this, you should DO IT NOW! Whether for comic con or Halloween, these are handmade items and only a certain number can be made at once. The stitching is detailed and strong; the fabrics are shiny and bright. I would note that I need an XL in this; I probably could have fit into a Large, but I like it to be a bit oversized. Make sure to look at the sizing chart (scroll through the pictures on the listing).

I am LOVING this costume and I can’t wait to see my other sisters and misters in crime at NYCC! Believe it or not, I’m still waiting on some accessories, prop weapons, boots, and Harley-specific wig to try out, so I will be back! Can’t wait to talk to you soon and share more of the fun with my puddins!
