Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Eddie Redmayne

Warner Brothers will be making a few more pushes in the coming weeks to help promote the release of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and they will start with the final trailer for the film. We’ve known that the Harry Potter spin-off would be based on exploits of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), the magizoologist whose work was the inspiration for a Hogwart’s textbook that we’ve saw in the original films. Though the character appeared in portraits in the books and films, the prequel-spinoff will be the first time where we see Newt in action.

Check out the full trailer for the film here below.

I find this film will be incredibly charming since it takes place in New York 70 years before the events of the Harry Potter series. For some reason, I could never get fully on board with the original films. However, the fact that Fantastic Beasts is basically a Harry Potter period piece intrigues me. Seeing all kinds of magic and mystical animals react to a 1920s New York, where America has its own Ministry of Magic, sounds like it could be a lot of fun, much like how King Kong did when he broke loose.

Of course I can only imagine that there will be a few subtle nods that help bridge the gap between Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter, so it should be interesting to see what director David Yates (who directed the last four Harry Potter films) and screenwriter J.K. Rowling (who wrote the popular books these films are based on) throw in. And given that the story does take place in the 1920s, could it help launch other spinoffs set in certain eras that would eventually lead up to the Harry Potter films? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Though the plot of capturing Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts is pretty clear, it seems that there is something much more nefarious going on and the person behind it all is Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), and it looks like Ezra Miller is at his side to help him accomplish his goal. But fear not, Scamander will be aided by wizardly siblings Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein (Katherine Waterson) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), and the No Maj (the American verison of a Muggle) Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler).

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them breaks loose into theaters on November 18, 2016.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident”¦were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston (“Steve Jobs,” “Inherent Vice”) as Tina; Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”) as Jacob; Alison Sudol (“Dig,” “Transparent”) as Tina’s sister, Queenie; Ezra Miller (“Trainwreck”) as Credence; two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton (“In America,” “Sweet and Lowdown”) as Mary Lou; Oscar winner Jon Voight (“Coming Home,” TV’s “Ray Donovan”) as Henry Shaw, Sr.; Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films) as Gnarlak; Carmen Ejogo (“Selma”) as Seraphina; Jenn Murray (“Brooklyn”) as Chastity; young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty; and Colin Farrell (“True Detective”) as Percival Graves.
