‘Logan’ Details Reveal Why Wolverine Needs Booze In Dystopian Future
  |  @   |

Earlier today we learned that Wolverine 3 would officially be titled, Logan. Along with the title, film star Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold revealed the first teaser poster for the film that showed an older scarred Logan with his claws unsheathed and holding the hands of a small child. Because the film is based on the “Old Man Logan” story arc, it is assumed that the child in question is his, and that his wounds are defensive ones from protecting said child. Not only that, but a photo of the screenplay reveals that Logan is older and his regenerative powers are diminishing.

Now more details about the film are coming out and it confirms that not only does Logan rely on booze to help ease the pain because his powers aren’t working, but mutant kind itself is in trouble. More on the story below.

The story comes to us from The Wrap who says the film is set in the year 2024. Mutant births are on the decline, and it’s not clear why these numbers are down. As for Logan, he drives what looks like a limo that has been modified to look like it’s from a futuristic setting. But Logan’s healing power is not working properly to a point where it doesn’t work at all. It’s not explained why any of this is happening, but the site mentions that a shadowy government operation called “Transigen” is turning mutant children into “killing machines.” Though not specifically stated, it makes sense to believe that Mister Sinister is somehow tied to all of this given the character’s questionable methods of biological experiments.

But Logan’s powers aren’t the only ones not working properly. Professor X (Patrick Stewart) is also having trouble with his powers, to a point where he even forgets who Logan is. Also, Stephen Merchant‘s role has been revealed. According tot he site, he plays the Albino mutant Caliban, who helps Logan take care of Professor X. Caliban has the power to sense and track mutants, and uses his ability to channel the emotions of those around him to enhance his strength.

As for the young child in the poster, it is said that she too is a mutant, although we don’t know if said child is Logan’s daughter. But one thing is clear, he is doing everything he can to protect her from being captured by Transigen.

We know that the tone of the film will be dark, very dark. In fact, the aforementioned image of the script briefly describes the kinds of violence we will see in the film:

In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when shit falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get hit with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they won’t bounce. They will die.

It’s pretty clear that the film will in fact be rated R for a very good reason and that Jackman and Mangold aren’t just saying that to attract some attention. Following the success of Deadpool, it seems fitting that the next rated R superhero flick would go to Logan.

Also starring Richard Grant and Boyd Holbrook, Logan opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
