Rachel McAdams Will Not Be Night Nurse In ‘Doctor Strange’; Film Tracking For $70 Million Opening
  |  @   |

The marketing campaign for Doctor Strange is really ramping up as it gets closer to its release early November date. While the film is about the title character, we are learning more about its supporting characters. It is being revealed that Rachel McAdams, who plays Christine Palmer, will not become Night Nurse. At least not yet.

In other news, Doctor Strange is on track to have a $50-$70 million opening weekend. Check out more on these stories below.

Entertainment Weekly was the first to confirm Adams would not be playing Night Nurse, yet. Christine Palmer made her Marvel Comics debut in the 1970’s comic book called Night Nurse, which was more of a shared moniker between three nurses who would provide medical assistance to Marvel superheroes. McAdams is fully aware of the rumor surrounding her character, but dodged the question is she would eventually become Night Nurse by saying “Mum’s the word on that one.”

Last year, Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight revealed Night Nurse was supposed to show up in Daredevil. Eventually, Rosario Dawson’s character would become Claire Temple. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said “I will say that that story line does not play into the movie,” and leaves vaguely leaves the door open for that possibility “It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.”

As for the box office opening, The Hollywood Reporter says Doctor Strange is on track for a $50 million to $70 million opening. The film is Marvel’s second to ever open in the fourth quarter, with the first being Thor: The Dark World, which had an $85.7 million opening. According to Deadline, Doctor Strange may even have a bigger opening than Ant-Man, and just like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange has a number of characters that general audiences are probably unfamiliar with.

Guardians Of The Galaxy also featured lesser-known characters, but ended up being one of the highest-grossing films of 2014. Even the first Thor ($65.7 million), Captain America ($65 million), and Iron Man ($98.6 million) were considered huge risks for Marvel. All three would end up being major hits for the studio.

Marvel still has days left to make one final marketing push before they release Doctor Strange. Recently, the studio gave fans everywhere a 15-minute sneak preview of the film, and we are likely to see a few clips before the film debuts on November 4, 2016.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From Marvel comes “Doctor Strange,” the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality.
