Well just a few hours after the release of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2teaser poster, Marvel has released the teaser trailer for the film.
The teaser reintroduces us to some old friends. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax (Dave Bautista) all appear in the film, as does Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) are also in the trailer but hardly speak. While we don’t get to see any of the new characters, we know that the film will have new characters like Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Ego (Kurt Russell), and Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki). Check it out below.
This teaser doesn’t have much to offer in terms of plot. We do get to see a brief snippet of the slo-mo action sequence that got rave reviews during SDCC. Other than that, this is pretty much a condensed version of what we saw last summer with a few sprinkles of new footage.
Director James Gunn even took to Twitter to clarify that this teaser is more of a sneak peek, and that it is a separate piece from the release of the eventual trailers:
To make it clear: the sneak peek just released is NOT a teaser-for-the-trailer; it’s a totally separate piece from the eventual trailer(s).
If anything, the teaser tells us that we can expect the same sort of silly humor that we saw in the first. There are a few awkward moments in it, especially when Drax makes an effort to embrace Star-Lord with an unwanted hug. Maybe we’ll even get to see more dancing. That is if Star-Lord can find a dance partner. If anything, Drax’s opening up will be hilarious to see on the big screen. Hopefully, he finally has a grasp on sarcasm.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in theaters on May 5, 2017.
