John Cleese Recaps The Walking Dead

On Sunday night season seven of AMC’s The Walking Dead begins, and fans will finally get the answer to the question they’ve been pondering, theorizing, fearing over the past six months (after getting past that initial unadulterated rage phase after season six ended). And when that first episode begins and we get that answer, chances are high that for some fans things will be brought right back around to unadulterated rage. If you watch the show, you know what that question is. If not, I won’t say any more than this about it (though there will be spoilers below, so proceed with caution).

But while we prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally for whatever is going to happen, there’s still some time for a few laughs. If you need a refresher on what’s gone down in the first six seasons of The Walking Dead, or if, for whatever strange reason, you want to watch the new season but don’t feel like watching the first six, a new video has been released in which comedy legend and Monty Python member John Cleese reminds you/sums up what’s happened so far. It’s basically the same as Samuel L. Jackson’s beginner’s guide to Game of Thrones for us, only shorter and John Cleese style! Check it out below.

Here’s what to expect when The Walking Dead season seven kicks off:

Up until this point, our characters have lived through conflicts”¦ Disease, hunger, scores of the undead, tragedy, betrayal, and unthinkable loss. Through this, they’ve become formidable. Powerful. Unstoppable.

To start Season Seven, that power is taken away. They had found safety and stability. They had created a home. They thought the world was theirs. They thought they knew the world. They were wrong.

The first half of Season Seven sees our group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces while living under the thumb of oppression. Negan will have successfully brought the survivors under his control, brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t.

Other characters are unaware of what’s happened, but have become separated from the group either by incident or choice “” they will learn that they can’t escape this new turn of their world, either. This half season is about these characters starting over.

The overall theme of the season is beginning again. The world isn’t what they thought it was. It’s bigger and it’s even more dangerous.

The Walking Dead returns on Sunday night, October 23rd, at 9PM on AMC.

  1. John Cleese’s bit would be the only thing about this series to capture my interest. Since he isn’t actually in the series this is about all I will see.
