Details Behind Tim Miller’s Split From ‘Deadpool 2’ Revealed
  |  @   |

Last weekend, Deadpool fans got some pretty shocking news as it was announced that Tim Miller would no longer be directing Deadpool 2 due to creative differences with the film’s star Ryan Reynolds. Since then fans have been petitioning for Quentin Tarantino to direct the film, which will most likely blow over as soon as Fox finds another director who shares Reynold’s vision for the sequel.

Now new details are emerging as what made the two part ways. Check out the full story below.

According to The Wrap, there was a huge creative difference between the two parties, with Miller wanting to have a more stylized actioner and Reynolds wanting something in the vein of what made the first film great, which was a comedy actioner with a modest budget. The first Deadpool had a production budget of $58 million, which is considerably low for a superhero film, especially one that is tied to a major superhero franchise like the X-Men. After its theatrical run, Deadpool ended up grossing $760 million worldwide, which is ten times more than the films’ first production budget.

So what would a Tim Miller-directed Deadpool 2 cost? According to the same report, Miller was asking for three times the $58 production budget the first film had. While it is normal for any sequel to get a budget increase, asking for approximately $180 million may have been too much. Fox certainly believed that it wasn’t going to be cost effective, and sided with Reynolds’ approach, which must have been cheaper.

There were other factors as well. Kyle Chandler was one Miller’s top choices to play the role of Cable. However, Reynolds objected to the idea of the Bloodline star playing the character, and Fox again sided with their Deadpool actor.

It’s interesting to hear that Miller was fighting to make Deadpool 2 more stylized than the first, especially since the first was known more for its humor than its action. However, without him, Deadpool and to a certain extent Deadpool 2 would not have happened, so the man deserves some credit. But there are some rumors that there’s been some animosity between Miller and Reynolds, and that the two haven’t spoken to each other since the release of the film.

So in addition to finding an actress to play the key role of Domino, Fox will have to find a new director so shares the same vision as Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. As aforementioned, there is a Change.org petition that hopes to get Quentin Tarantino to direct the film, as well as one to get Hellboy star Ron Perlman cast as Cable, although I really don’t see those happening considering those petitions have very little effect on the studio’s decision.

While there is no official release date yet, there is a rumor that the sequel is supposed to head into production next year. We’ll keep you posted on any new developments.
