‘Split’ Trailer: Meet James McAvoy’s Crazy Personalities
  |  @   |

So far the collaboration between Blumhouse and M. Night Shyamalan has been a successful one. The Visit helped reestablish the filmmaker’s career, and we can look forward to many more horror flicks from the two.

Now we are getting a new trailer for Split, starring James McAvoy as Kevin, a man who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and has 23 split personalities (from an angry deranged man to a small child to a woman) sharing one body. Check out the full trailer below.

The movie recently had a secret screening over at Fantastic Fest a few weeks back and was met with positive reviews. The trailer does a great job of laying out the groundwork for the terrifying horror that befalls the three girls (Anya Taylor-Joy, Jessica Sula, and Haley Lu Richardson), who are kidnapped by Kevin for some nefarious reason. The erratic jerks on screen as Kevin switches from personality to personality combined with the music looks down-right scary. As much as The Visit was Shyamalan’s return to form, it looks like he will raise the bar on terror once again here. So hopefully it lives up to our expectations.

Here’s the film’s official plot synopsis:

Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns to the captivating grip of The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs with Split, an original film that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Following last year’s breakout hit The Visit, Shyamalan reunites with producer Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series, The Gift) for the thriller being hailed as “Shyamalan’s most terrifying film to date.”

Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities””each with unique physical attributes””to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him””as well as everyone around him””as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

For the film The Guardian calls “a masterful blend of Hitchcock and horror,” Shyamalan and Blum reassemble their core team from The Visit, the No. 1-grossing horror film of 2015. Their fellow collaborators on Split include producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.

Split opens in theaters on January 20, 2017.
