‘Suicide Squad’ Extended Edition Blu-ray Trailer Reminds Us About A Forgotten Joker

Suicide Squad Review

Aside from the narrative and pacing flaws of Suicide Squad, one thing the film mishandled was the way we saw the Joker (Jared Leto). As much as the marketing campaign hyped the character, we saw very little of the Clown Prince Of Crime. In fact, Leto, who himself was unhappy that there was so very little of him, said he shot enough footage to make his own movie.

Now, a new trailer to help promote the release of the Suicide Squad Extended Edition Blu-ray shows us how much of that Joker footage we were promised, plus a few other scenes that were in the original trailers but gone from the final cut.

Check it out below.

Thanks to ComingSoon.net for the video.

The trailer opens with the Joker preparing to torture a pre-Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). who pleads with him to spare her from whatever pain she is about to experience. But he tells her “You left me in a black hole of rage and confusion,” then furiously pounds the table. We then hear Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which oddly enough uses the lyrics “Let It Go,” as if they are telling us just let go of our frustrations over the fact that there was a lack of Joker in the theatrical cut.

Other scenes include a confrontation between Harley and Katana, where the former tells the latter, “That was gangsta.” But the most interesting scene of all that everyone would have liked to have seen, is Harley Quinn pointing a gun right at the Joker’s head, to which the Joker encourages her to fire before he disarms her. Oh, and they have that Harley Quinn taking drink order scene again, so let’s hope that it makes it into the film.

Part of me believes that the extended cut was the cut that audiences deserved, despite the fact that director David Ayer has said the theatrical cut was the intended cut. It should be interesting to see whether or not the additions will help the film knowing how the film panned out with the original cut.

Suicide Squad Extended Cut is available now on Digital HD and will be available on Blu-ray on December 13th, 2016.
