Spoilers for American Horror Story: Season 6

How in hell are they going to top last week?! Last week, American Horror Story put The Walking Dead on notice: you do NOT own the rights to shock and awe horror television. First there was rogue Agnes (Kathy Bates). Gone full psycho after being left off the reality-based show “3 Days in Hell: Return to Roanoke,” Agnes, still playing The Butcher, carved her way through the cast and crew, including Sidney James (Cheyenne Jackson), the producer who put everything together. Agnes also stabbed Shelby (Lily Rabe) and gave chase to Audrey (Sarah Paulson), Monet (Angela Bassett), and Lee (Adina Porter) into the woods. Back at the house after Matt (Andre Holland) went off for possessed witch sex, Shelby bashed his brains in Negan-style and now her and Dominic (Cuba Gooding Jr) are faced with the real ghosts of Roanoke coming for them on the blood moon. Their first victim: Agnes, who meets the real Butcher.

On this week’s episode, Shelby and Dominic are absolutely besieged by the ghosts of the house. Piggy Man is there, the Chinese family, the twin nurses”¦ they somehow fight their way upstairs, but the writing is on the wall. Consumed by guilt over killing Matt, Shelby slices her own throat. Another one bites the dust. How is this show going to make it two more episodes with such a fast death rate?!

Meanwhile, being ravaged by ghosts seems pleasant compared to the hell Lee is in. Trapped by the Polk family, she is being stripped piece by piece for fresh flesh. Mama Polk tells her about how they started killing off hobos during the Depression because their family swore “they’d never go hungry again.” Well ain’t she a regular Scarlett O’Hara. Slowly Lee tries to bond with the redneck son keeping her captive. Of course it was an elaborate ruse and Lee is able to turn the tables on the kid and kill him. I think that’s penance for one lost ear, and thigh and shoulder filets.

Audrey and Monet are being tortured by the Polks as well, with the family wanting to yank their teeth out of the mouths. Monet manages to break free and runs off sending the male Polks to chase her. With Mama left alone, Lee surprises her and Audrey gets bloody revenge. Boy, Fall 2016″¦ the season where heads go to die on TV. They take the tunnel back to the house where Lee stumbles on her brother’s corpse.

They find Shelby dead upstairs with Dominic telling them of Shelby’s murder of Matt and suicide and as you can imagine, they do not believe the one living guy. They lock him out of the room and Piggy Man is waiting. Morning comes, daylight is here, and the blood moon has receded. But while survival is important, Lee knows they need to return to the Polk farm and retrieve the video evidence of them committing and admitting to murders. As they walk out the front door, Piggy Man is there”¦ but no, it’s just the actor who played Piggy Man”¦ Dylan (Wes Bentley).

Two episodes to go and only a few people left. We know only one character survives, so the question is, Lee, Audrey and now Dylan? My original pick was Lee, so I’m sticking with her. For a one-hour show, AHS breezes by so fast. The tension is so thick, you can cut with the Butcher’s cleaver. This may be my favorite season of American Horror Story.

American Horror Story: Roanoke returns next Wednesday at 10:00pm ET only on FX.
