‘Beauty and the Beast’ Trailer: New Tale, Same Great Magic
  |  @   |

There is something to be said about the Disney’s animated telling of Beauty and the Beast. As the song says, it’s a tale that is old as time. Just a week ago, we saw a glimpse of what that tale looks like as Disney released a couple of images giving us our first look at Belle (Emma Watson) meeting the Beast (Dan Stevens). While some have criticized that he doesn’t as good as they thought, I argued that it was just an image of an incomplete Beast, meaning that his makeup and effects would probably be done just in time for a trailer.

Well Disney has released that new trailer, complete with a look of the kingdom, castle, townsfolk, and more.

Check it out below.

While the trailer is short – it runs at 2:00 minutes, which is less than most traditional trailers that are released – we get a better look at the interior and exterior shots of the castle, which has been ravaged by the curse set upon it. The curse not only ruined the castle, but it turned its master into a Beast, and everyone else into living objects.

A lot of this trailer plays out iconic moments we’ve seen in the original animated film, with the iconic dance between the two title characters, Gaston (Luke Evans) boisterously singing at the tavern, Maurice (Kevin Kline) meeting the Beast and being imprisoned by him. I suppose that was the goal of the trailer. Giving out even the slightest hint of a new song could spoil what distinguishes itself from its animated predecessor. It’s pretty much the same strategy that was used in The Jungle Book.

The film stars Emma Thompson as the kind-hearted teapot, Mrs. Potts; Ian McKellen as the uptight clock, Cogsworth; Ewan McGregor as a rebellious maître d’ candelabra, Lumiere; Josh Gad as Gaston’s stooge LeFou; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Babette, a featherduster; Stanley Tucci as neurotic piano, Cadenza, a new character created for the film; and Audra McDonald as Garderobe, the wardrobe.

The trailer appeared on both Facebook and Youtube, so we have both embeds just in cast one of them does not work.

Beauty and the Beast opens in theaters on March 17th, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action adaptation of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.
