‘Patriots Day’ Trailer: Mark Wahlberg Faces A National Tragedy Head-On
  |  @   |

Peter Berg‘s strength is in his ability to tell a gripping story, and give it a cinematic feel. The intense military drama Lone Survivor and the powerful oil-rig disaster Deepwater Horizon, were all fine examples of dramatized based on true-life stories that captured the world’s attention. Come next year, he will do the same with Patriots Day, a film that chronicles the events that transpired before, during, and after the Boston Marathon bombing that took place in April 2013.

Check out the latest trailer below.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Tommy Saunders, a police officer who witnesses the bombing and helps capture the people involved. The film also stars Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, John Goodman, and Michelle Monaghan.

Seeing as this is another Berg feature starring Wahlberg, it’s no surprise that we will probably see a majority of this film through Saunder’s eyes as he helps victims during the mayhem, but also search for the terrorists that caused the deaths of three innocent victims and injured 264 people.

One has to appreciate the stories that Berg is telling, which we will need more of in these divisive times. Putting aside the politics, it is events like the one we will see in Patriot Day that unite a nation as one. While I may have been on the opposite end of the country, I couldn’t help but feel that the U.S. came closer together, as they watched Boston overcome such a horrific act of terrorism.

Patriots Day opens in limited release in LA, NY, and Boston, on December 21st, 2017, then expands nationwide on January 13, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

In the aftermath of an unspeakable attack, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of one of the most sophisticated manhunts in law enforcement history and celebrates the strength of the people of Boston.
