Carrie Fisher Reveals Affair With Harrison Ford During ‘Star Wars’ Filming
  |  @   |

Well, this is definitely one way to sell a book: Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, revealed that her upcoming book, The Princess Diarist, talks about her long-ago affair with co-star Harrison Ford.

The actress told People that at 19 while filming Star Wars back in 1976, she had a 3-month romance with her then-33-year-old co-star Ford, who played Han Solo in the film. At that time, Ford was married to his first wife Mary Marquardt, and had two children (the couple divorced in 1979).

“It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend,” she says.

Now 60, Fisher says the affair “was so intense,” and that she was so inexperienced and filled with self-doubt.

“I looked over at Harrison. A hero’s face “” a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow,” she writes. “How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?”

Although the fling ended after filming, the co-stars would work together again on the sequels — The Empire Strikes Back (1980), where Han and Leia fall in love; Return Of The Jedi (1983), where they make their relationship official; and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), where they’re an estranged married couple with a son.

Fisher said she’s telling this story in her book now after recently coming across old journals she had kept while filming Star Wars location in London.

The actress said she did give Ford, who’s been with third wife actress Calista Flockhart since 2002, notice about the contents of the book, and sent received him a draft, but so far, the actor has made no public statements.

I love Fisher’s writings, and always pick up both her fiction and autobiographical novels, so I’d be getting The Princess Diarist, but now, yeah, I really need to read this when it’s released on November 22, 2016. I’ve written about this before, but here I go again: When I was around 12, I used to reread the Donald F. Gluz novelization of The Empire Strikes Back with the blue cover all the time, and if you were to take that paperback off my shelf right now, it would immediately open to p. 107, where Han and Leia share their first kiss — after she calls him a “scoundrel.” So, as you can imagine, the 12-year-old in me really wants to read Fisher’s upcoming memoir.
