‘A Wrinkle In Time’ Release Date Announced With Mannequin Challenge Video
  |  @   |

The mannequin challenge craze has caught the nation by storm. And while I believe that it is a popular trend that will eventually find its way out the door, film PR might as well use it to promote their movies while the trend is still hot.

In this case, everyone involved in the production and publicity for Ava DuVernay‘s A Wrinkle In Time participated in the mannequin challenge to announce the release date for the upcoming film. Check out the video below.

The mannequin challenge video looks like it was a giant challenge to put together. And it looks like DuVernay accomplished it and more, because the film is no ordinary adaptation. The film makes DuVernay the first African-American woman to direct a Hollywood studio blockbuster worth $100 million.

Here’s what DuVernay had to say about the commencement of film production, which started November 1:

“Since Day One, this experience has shimmered with the promise and possibility, the passion and power that only great stories offer. And Madeline L’Engle’s book is a great story indeed. A cool, quirky tale of an imperfect girl on an otherworldly expedition that has been praised and banned, dissected and celebrated the world over for more than 50 years. On behalf of all the filmmakers, artists and craftspeople in our ‘Wrinkle in Time’ family, we are genuinely thrilled by and truly grateful for the opportunity to make this film together.”

As for the giant mannequin video, if you look at the end of the video you will notice that one of the screenplay has April 6, 2018 written on the cover. Yup, that’s the new release date.

The film stars Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which), Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), and Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who). With Chris Pine (Mr. Murry), Zach Galifinakis (The Happy Medium), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Mrs. Murry), André Holland (Principal Jenkins), Levi Miller (Calvin), and Deric McCabe (Charles Wallace). The cast also features Bellamy Young, Rowan Blanchard, Will McCormack, and Michael Pena. Newcomer Storm Reid will play the lead role of Meg, who joins her brother on a time-traveling journey into the past to find their missing father.

Jim Whitaker (Pete’s Dragon) and Catherine Hand will produce from a script written by Jennifer Lee (Frozen). Tobias A. Schliessler (Beauty and the Beast) is the film’s director of photography, with production designer Naomi Shohan (Training Day), costume designer Paco Delgado (The Danish Girl), and visual effects supervisor Rich McBride (The Revenant) rounding out the creative talent team.
