Fox Developing TV Series ‘The Building’ From Neil Gaiman, Based On Netflix’s ‘Parallels’

A movie was released on Netflix in 2015 titled Parallels, which was written and directed by Christopher AlbvLeone, based on a story from Leone and Laura Harkcom. It was made for Fox Digital Studios, a division of 20th Century Fox. This movie was originally set up to be the pilot episode of a potential television series, but ended up being a standalone movie instead.

Now comes word that Parallels might just find life on the small screen after all. Fox is currently developing a drama series based on the movie titled The Building. Helping to develop the series with Leone is none other than American Gods and The Sandman author Neil Gaiman.

More on the story below, as well as the trailer for Parallels if you’ve not seen it.

In The Building a mysterious skyscraper is entered by a group of urban explorers. They discover that the building can jump to alternate Earth timelines in which history played out much differently. For example, one of the jumps sees them in a time when Ronald Reagan was never elected president, leading to the Russians dropping nukes and total apocalyptic annihilation. The series will dive deeper into the origins of this mysterious building and who built it, as well as what’s on each floor and if the young explorers can get back to their own timeline.

Gaiman will also executive produce the series alongside Leone, Albert Kim, and Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films. Kim will take on showrunner duties for The Building, and is writing along with Leone.

Gaiman is of course best known for his books and comics, but he does also have some experience in television. He created and wrote the BBC series Neverwhere, wrote an episode of Babylon 5, and wrote multiple episodes of Doctor Who. He’s also been heavily involved in the development of the series based on his American Gods, which debuts on Starz in 2017.
