‘Cars 3’ Teaser Trailer Gets Really Pixar Dark Really Fast
  |  @   |

Pixar’s Cars film franchise hasn’t been the most popular with critics, but it is one of the most lucrative. While the first two films had a fish out of water theme, Cars 3 seems to take a dark and gritty turn for the series as we see Lighting McQueen suffer a devastating crash forcing him to have a new lease on life as he sets out to prove to a new generation of cars that he is still the best in the world.

Check out the latest teaser trailer for the film here below.

This is truly a teaser trailer in every sense of the word. In fact, the trailer feels like a nod to how Cars opened with Lighting reciting “Speed, I am speed,” as we see quick shots of race cars speeding around the track. There are hardly any shots of the face of any of these characters; instead, we see the rear as one sleek new car passes through the competition with ease while McQueen, who looks like he is in the lead burns out a tire forcing him to spin out and crash. At that moment we hear a slow steady breathing as if Lighting’s life is flashing before his eyes then the caption “From This Moment Everything Will Change” lights up the screen before it announces its Summer 2017 release.

It’s a huge change of pace from the cartoony bright colored cars we have seen in the past Cars installments. Instead, we are given a hyper-photorealistic trailer that feels gritty and dark. The crash also seems to take the franchise full circle as one of the best suffers a crash that nearly destroyed a character’s racing career. With the help of a trainer, the once world-renowned champion will find help in the most unlikeliest of places and prove that he isn’t out of the game just yet. It should be interesting to see what Pixar does with their Rocky approach to the franchise.

Owen Wilson reprises his voice role as Lighting McQueen. Directed by Brian Fee, Cars 3 is expected to open in theaters on June 16, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
