‘Silence’ Trailer: Martin Scorsese’s Latest Speaks Volumes
  |  @   |

Martin Scorsese‘s long-awaited film adaptation of Silence is finally coming at the end of the year. Now we are finally getting our first look at the film.

Paramount has revealed the first trailer for the film starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as Jesuit priests who travel to Feudal Japan to find their mentor (Liam Neeson) in an area where Christianity is outlawed and their presence is forbidden. Check out the first trailer and a poster below.

Based on the 1966 novel of the same name by ShÅ«saku Endō, the film has been a passion project of Scorsese’s, who had been developing it since 1990. While the film has missed some key film festivals that could give critics an early assessment of its award-winning potential, the film is locked for a December release, which puts it right in the middle of the Oscar race. In fact, some thought the film could miss an awards campaign altogether, but Paramount’s latest release date reveal showed that the studio has confidence that the film could earn itself a few nominations.

Judging by the looks of things, the film speaks volumes and yet there is very little dialogue. If anything, the music sets the dark tone that is full of suffering, beachside crucifixions, deadly swordplay, and pleading with God. If anything, Silence will surely have everyone change their current top ten list of the year.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Martin Scorsese’s SILENCE tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life will be in theaters this Christmas.

Written by Scorsese and Jay Cocks (The Age of Innocence, Gangs of New York) Silence also stars Tadanobu Asano and Ciarán Hinds. It opens in theaters on December 23, 2016
