‘Moana’: Watch Dwayne Johnson Sing “You’re Welcome” In Its Entirety
  |  @   |

Last weekend, many turned to the movie theaters to get away from families or crazed shoppers. While there was a lot to offer, Moana ended up being the number one film of the weekend, taking in $82 million in its debut.

If you haven’t seen it yet, well then you’re missing out on one of the greatest Disney movies ever (check out our review here). And to prove it, Disney has released a full music sequence from the film that sees Dwayne Johnson singing his song “You’re Welcome.” Check it out below.

Of course, Johnson isn’t known for his great vocal range, and I’ll admit I wasn’t a fan of the song the first time I heard it, but hearing it in its entirety was different, and soon it starts to warm up to you.

The music and songs were written and composed by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, composer Mark Mancina, and the Grammy award-winning Polynesian musician Opetaia Foa’i. You can feel all three blends of their style throughout the entire song. But that doesn’t take away from Johnson’s effort as a singer. Because Maui is a demi-god with an ego, he sings about all of the great deeds he has done for us humans, and even gets his tattoo, Mini-Maui, to help animate his exploits. Soon enough, the sequence becomes bigger in scale with Maui and Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) becoming the only CGI characters in a tapestry backdrop that has spotlights. It’s all very appropriate for a guy who sings about himself.

Directed by Disney alums Ron Clements and John Musker, Moana tells the story of a 14-year-old navigator who sets off on a quest to find a fabled island, joining up with the legendary demi-god Maui along the way. The movie is out in theaters now.
