Tour Of Peter Jackson’s Movie Prop Collection Part 2: Original 1933 ‘King Kong’ Armature (Video)
  |  @   |

A couple of weeks back we were treated to a visit to Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit director Peter Jackson‘s incredible museum-like movie prop collection when Mythbusters star Adam Savage visited for his YouTube channel Tested.

While the collection has thousands of treasures, the first video mainly focused on only one of Jackson’s props, the faceplate for Hal 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey. An awesome prop, of course, but it made me sad we didn’t get to see much more of the collection. I hoped it would be the first of a series of videos, and, well, here we are! A second video of Savage’s visit to Jackson’s collection has been released, this time looking at perhaps the most prized possession of the King Kong (2005) director: an original 1933 King Kong armature.

Click on over to the other side to check out the video.

I hope this second video means there are lots more to come. But if they’re only going to look at one or two props each video, we’re probably only going to really see a select handful of them. There is so much there, and I want to see it all.

Oh, and update on my master plan laid out in the first video post: I have NOT become friends with Peter Jackson. Yet. There will be no dancing this day. Stay tuned.

When Adam Savage visited Peter Jackson’s collection of film props, costumes, and artifacts, they examined the original stop-motion armature from the original 1933 film. Adam and Peter talk about this prized prop and its role in Hollywood special effects history.
