‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Will Visit Planet Hulk’s Sakaar
  |  @   |

Any hopes of a solo Hulk film have been continually shot down time and time again, and it doesn’t look like the character will be getting one anytime soon. However, that isn’t stopping Marvel Studios from finding creative ways to incorporate Hulk story arcs into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors of Hulk appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 supported the idea that we would get to see a Planet Hulk arc on the big screen. James Gunn quickly shot them down. But those rumors quickly popped back up when it was announced that Hulk would appear in Thor: Ragnarok.

We saw hints of Planet Hulk when we saw concept art of Hulk wearing his signature gladiator armor. Now after months of rumors and speculation, director Taika Waititi has confirmed Thor: Ragnarok will be using elements of Planet Hulk by saying audiences will be paying a visit to the gladiator planet Sakaar. Check out the full story below.

In an interview with Total Film, Waititi confirmed what many of us wanted to know. While the set photos and Comic-Con teases were a dead giveaway, Sakaar is pretty much the nail in the coffin. Here’s what he had to say:

“Sakaar was just an insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters. I was really excited when Kevin [Feige] and the rest of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big influence in the design of the film. What’s really hard is staying authentic.”

In the comics, Hulk gets sent off into space after the Avengers consider him a danger to society. So they put him into a rocket and send him off to an uninhabited planet. Fueled by anger and rage, he rips the ship apart and sets the ship off course where it crash lands on the gladiator planet Sakaar. Hulk is then forced into a life of fighting but soon becomes emperor. He then journeys back home and takes his vengeance out on those who exiled him. But like most film adaptations, they aren’t entirely faithful to the original source material. We’ll just have to wait and see how Waititi will incorporate it into the film.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Mark Ruffalo, Thor: Ragnarok is in theaters November 3, 2017
