At this point in time, we should tell you that any news about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will contain spoilers. Not just because we know that the rebels steal the plans to the Death Star, but in terms of how the film specifically ends.

For those who have seen it already, we know the fate of the crew, but for those who have yet to see it, this will be your only warning as spoilers will follow. But for those that have seen it, did you know that there was a different ending. Find out what it is in the full story below.

Director Gareth Edwards took some time to speak to the Empire Podcast about some of the alternate endings they had planned for the film should Disney and Lucasfilm not accept the fact that everyone dies in Rogue One. Here’s what he told them:

Indeed, it is surprising that Disney even allowed everyone to die. It certainly goes against the idea that at least one person should live. It also is a great counter argument for those who fear that Disney would Disneyify their beloved franchise. But even for a family friendly studio like Disney, it is easy to see why Edwards may have had contingency plans should Disney not approve of everyone dying.

So it’s great to see that Edwards and Whitta, and Tony Gilroy, had the guts to write that in the script, and even better that Disney allowed it to happen. By having deaths adds to the film’s authenticity about war. Even though we know the Rebels steal the plans to the Death Star, the film’s tone shows that every war has its casualties. Of course, there is one small chance that we could see Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) in another film, in one shape or form.
