Gremlins

Amidst all of these reboots and remakes and sequels, it is pretty surprising that we’ve not yet seen Gremlins 3 find life. We’ve heard about a new movie in the franchise in the past—sometimes as a remake, sometimes as a sequel—but nothing has ever come of it.

Star Wars Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia

Carrie Fisher, best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, died today after suffering a heart attack a few days ago on a flight from London to Los Angeles, according to THR. She was 60.

Born in Beverly Hills, CA, in 1956, the actress and writer grew up in the spotlight as the child of stars Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. While she often performed live alongside her mother, Fisher made her big-screen debut at 19 in 1975’s Shampoo starring opposite Warren Beatty. But it was her next film, 1977’s Star War: A New Hope, George Lucas’s unexpected mega-hit scifi adventure that spawned one of the biggest franchises of all time, that led her to become a household name and a role model to little girls — and women — everywhere.

Now the short has been released online, and can be enjoyed below. It runs a little under 18 minutes in length, with some bonus stuff after the credits, and includes lots of familiar Futurama goodness. Only now it’s real actors and animatronics instead of animated. As I said about the trailer, it’s hard to get past the voices not being the same if you’re a fan of the original. But the rest is phenomenal, especially the costumes, sets, puppets, makeup, props, etc. Oh, and they even brought in Rich Little to play Nixon’s head, so that alone is worth seeing. And you’ll no doubt spot multiple things you’ll wish Planet Express could deliver to your personal collection immediately. That Nibbler puppet? We needs it.
