There is a lot of movies to look forward to in 2017. A solo Star Wars is on the way, Spider-Man is coming home, and we’re getting another Thor sequel! Coming in November, Thor: Ragnarok is the third movie featuring Marvel’s Thor, played again by Chris Hemsworth, with several other stars reprising their MCU roles, along with new additions to the cast. The biggest addition this go around is actually the answer to a big question from 2014’s Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron… “Where did the Hulk go?” We now have the official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok, which answers just that.
Check out the official synopsis here below, along with a newly released set image showing director Taika Waititi with Hemsworth in full Thor regalia.
Some returning favorites are Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin, along with some new faces this go around, most notably Cate Blanchett as the villainous Hela and Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster, which expands the Marvel Universe to the realm of the Cosmic Elders (of which the Grandmaster is one).
OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS
In Marvel Studios’ “˜Thor: Ragnarok’, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok “” the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization “” at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger “” the Incredible Hulk!
That’s right, Mark Ruffalo will be showing up in what appears to be a nod to the popular comic book storyline “Planet Hulk,” as Thor and Hulk get a rematch from their confrontation in Marvel’s Avengers. So in Ragnarok, Thor will be expanding a lot on the more cosmic side of Marvel with adding The Grandmaster and Hel.
Some other notable additions are Karl Urban as Skurge. The fact that it’s Karl Urban in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is awesome enough, but Skurge is also very often working with another popular Thor villain Enchantress, which could be another exciting character down the road. Also, we are getting Tessa Thompson, who will finally be bringing Valkyrie to the screen, which fans have been excited about ever since it was announced. But yeah, Thor and Hulk dueling it out in gladiator-style combat, how cool will THAT be?
Also, there’s a good chance that Doctor Strange will show up in some way in Thor: Ragnarok. A set photo from the summer showed Thor holding a business card that reads “177A Bleeker St,” which is the New York address of Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum.
While there is a lot going on in 2017, it’s looking more and more like Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is going to make this a November to remember.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters on November 3, 2017.
