In addition to talking about the current status of any possible Game of Thrones prequels or spinoffs, as well as how many episodes season eight will have, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys also offered brief status updates for some of their other projects.
Bloys shared the current status of that Deadwood movie we’ve been hearing about, which fans of the western series have been anxiously awaiting word on. The update doesn’t really offer much, sadly, so don’t excitedly rush below to see it. He also shared where things stand on two more recent shows: True Detective, which had an outstanding debut season but rough second season, leaving the status of season three up in the air; and The Night Of, their crime series which was initially a limited series but due to its success is being considered for new episodes.
See what Bloys had to say about the three projects below.
For the Deadwood movie, Bloys simply said:
“David Milch is still writing. I believe he’s writing a “˜Deadwood’ movie that I have not read. When it’s ready we will take a look at it.”
Nothing new there. We found out Milch was working on the script back in August, so it’s no great surprise he’s still chipping away at that.
As for True Detective, one of the reasons it’s thought that the second season failed is because it was rushed. If a season three does in fact happen some day, one thing is for sure: it’s not something that will be rushed:
“I don’t have anything on paper yet but I know there are some ideas going back and forth. I don’t want to rush it. I don’t want to do anything just to get it on the air.”
Finally, when asked about new episodes of The Night Of Bloys said:
“Steve and Richard are throwing around ideas. I’m hopeful they will land on something but one thing I know about them “” if they’re not 100% sure about something, they’re going to take their time,” Bloys said. “I told them we’ll be here when you’re ready. I’m hopeful that they’re getting an idea they’re excited about.”
