IFC Films has released a trailer for a dark fairy tale thriller titled American Fable.
The movie is produced, written, and directed by Anne Hamilton, who makes her feature directorial debut. The cast includes Peyton Kennedy, Richard Schiff, Kip Pardue, Gavin MacIntosh, Zuleikha Robinson, Rusty Schwimmer, and Marci Miller.
The story follows a young girl in the 1980s who escapes to a world of fantasy as her family’s farm is in danger of being lost in the midst of a crisis. You can read an official synopsis for American Fable and check out the trailer below.
SYNOPSIS:
A dark, dreamlike mystery plays out amidst the expansive farmlands of the American Midwest in this wondrous, storybook thriller. With her family’s livelihood imperiled by the farm crisis of the 1980s, eleven-year-old Gitty (Peyton Kennedy) loses herself in a world of fantasy and make believe. But she stumbles into her own fairytale when she makes a startling discovery: a well-dressed mystery man (Richard Schiff) being held captive in her family’s silo. It’s the beginning of a labyrinthine journey that will turn Gitty’s world upside down and force her to question her loyalty to her own family. The feature debut from director Anne Hamilton unleashes a torrent of gorgeous, stunningly surreal images as it immerses viewers in a child’s imagination.
Hamilton is an emerging filmmaking talent who got her start in the movie business not too long ago, working as an intern on Terrence Malick’s 2011 film The Tree of Life. She studied philosophy at Stanford and law at Yale, and was one of eight women chosen for AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women in 2014. Before making this movie she wrote and directed a pair of shorts titled Death Artists, Inc. and The Inheritance.
American Fable will open in limited theaters and on video on demand services on February 17th.
