Episode VIII Official Title Is ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

Star Wars Episode VIII officially has a title. In a Tweet posted by the film’s official Twitter account, the film will be called Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

More on the story below.

What’s interesting about this trailer is that the Star Wars title, which is black with a yellow border, is now red and black. It’s not the first time we saw that. Return of the Jedi had a very similar font.

But let’s remember that Jedi is plural, so the title may be in reference to Rey and Luke Skywalker being the last of the Jedi. But that’s just some speculation.

But here is what Lucasfilm had to say following the title reveal:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Mark Hamill. It opens in theaters on December 15th, 2017.

  1. Someone posted both titles of the sequel films side by side. I found it interesting that they formed this sentence: The Force awakens the last Jedi.
