‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’ Single Player Campaign Confirmed

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 To Have Single-Player Campaign

We’ve known since it was announced that Disney had signed an exclusive deal with video game giant Electronic Arts—not too long after acquiring Lucasfilm—that multiple new Star Wars games were on the way.

Multiple games are still on the way, but in the almost four years since that deal was announced only the new Battlefront has been released. While await more on those other games, it’s been revealed—believe it or not—that Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will in fact have a sing-player campaign.

There’s no denying that the first Battlefront was a tremendous technical achievement. It looked and felt exactly how you’d want a Star Wars game to look and feel. It was perfect in that regard.

But the decision was made somewhere along the line to pass on making a single-player campaign (even a fairy short one like developer DICE’s Battlefield games have) and offer the game with only multiplayer and co-op modes but still at full price…because some horribly incorrect data showed that people don’t play single-player games anymore. Plenty of people still bought and played it, but it was no doubt a damaging decision. It’s the reason I never bothered with it. It’s the reason many others never bothered with it (though at this point you can get the Ultimate Edition with all the post-release content for around $30 on Amazon, which is a deal anyone can get behind).

Thankfully, as you can see in the statement that was tweeted out below, they’ve learned their lesson and will be remedying things for Battlefront 2. DICE is once again working on the game, but this time around it will be a collaboration along with Criterion Games (Burnout, Need for Speed, Battlefront VR), and Motive Studios, which was founded in 2015 by former Ubisoft executive and one of the creators behind the Assassin’s Creed series, Jade Raymond, and also did work on the highly anticipated Star Wars game from former Uncharted director Amy Hennig we’ve only seen a peek of thus far.

Now…whether a great deal of effort will be put into creating that single-player campaign or it will be a hollow offering made only in the interest of selling more copies? That’s a concern for another day.
