Punch it! Today marks the official start of production for the Han Solo Star Wars Story spinoff movie. And while a title has yet to be revealed, Disney marked the occasion by releasing a photo of the cast.
Ehrenreich, Glover, Harrelson, Clarke, and Waller-Bridge, with Lord and Miller, and Suotamo suited as Chewbacca appear in the photo. No sight of Newton, though.
Principle photography on the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is currently taking place at Pinewood Studios, London.
According to the press release:
“…the movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.”
Again, it’s nothing that we don’t already know, but it’s still nice to get something more official as opposed to making up our own synopsis. But according to producer Kathleen Kennedy, the film will have a western feel to it that takes inspiration from Frederic Remington’s artwork.
Normally, the very funny Lord and Miller would have something witty and hilarious to say, but to be a part of such a production, they couldn’t find a way to crack a joke:
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous. We can’t think of anything funny to say, because we just feel really moved, and really lucky.”
Lord and Miller are normally behind films that sound like a very bad idea. But after directing both Jump Street films and The LEGO Movie, the two have become one of the most sought after filmmakers in the industry. This is also Disney and Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars spinoff, with the first being Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That film was a huge success, and now expectations are even higher now that there is a spinoff about everyone’s favorite smuggler.
Written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, the film will be produced by Kennedy, Allison Shearmur, and Simon Emanuel, and co-produced by Kiri Hart, Susan Towner, and Will Allegra. Lawrence Kasdan and Jason McGatlin will executive produce.
Arrival‘s Bradford Young will be responsible for cinematography, while Chris Dickens will act as editor. Other behind-the-scenes crew members include Dominic Tuohy (SFX Supervisor), Rob Bredow (VFX Supervisor), and Brad Allan (Action Designer).
They will be joining returning Star Wars veteran crew members Neal Scanlan (Creature & Droid FX Creative Supervisor), Neil Lamont (Production Designer), Dave Crossman and Glyn Dillon (Co-Costume Designers), Jamie Wilkinson (Prop Master), Lisa Tomblin (Hair), Amanda Knight (Make-Up), and Nina Gold (UK Casting Director).
The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is slated for release on May 25, 2018.
