First ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Image Has Emily Blunt Looking Very Dapper
  |  @   |

We are still over a year away from the release of Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to the 1964 musical hit Mary Poppins. Based on PL Travers‘ works, the film follows the title character as she returns to London to help Michael rediscover joy after he suffers a personal heavy loss. Emily Blunt takes on the title role once played by Julie Andrews, and she will be accompanied by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Meryl Streep. The film is still in production, but Disney has released our very first look of Blunt as Mary Poppins. Check it out here below.

The image comes to us from Disney, and while it is light on the details, it does help us get just a little bit excited for the upcoming film. This is just an image after all, and her back is turned. But you can appreciate the effort that went into the costume design.

Written by Life of Pi scribe David Magee, Mary Poppins Returns is directed by musical veteran Rob Marshall (Dreamgirls, Into the Woods) and stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, Angela Lansbury, Ben Whishaw, and Dick Van Dyke .

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Mary Poppins Returns is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Julie Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Meryl Streep).

Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on December 25, 2018.
