‘Harry Potter’ Star Jason Isaacs Joins ‘Star Trek’ TV Series As Starship Discovery Captain

Jason Isaacs in Event Horizon

We already know that the main character of the new Star Trek TV series, titled Star Trek: Discovery, will not be a captain. At least not to start. Instead, the main character will be a lieutenant commander played by The Walking Dead star Sonequa Martin-Green.

But the starship Discovery does still need a captain, and CBS has found the actor to play him. It’s being reported that Jason Isaacs has joined the cast of the show, and will play a character named Captain Lorca.

Isaacs is perhaps best known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series of movies. He has also starred in Event Horizon, The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, Brotherhood, Star Wars Rebels, and more recently A Cure for Wellness and Netflix’s The OA.

Isaacs joins Martin-Green and other previous castings Michelle Yeoh, who will play the captain of the starship Shenzhou, and Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones as a pair of Starfleet science officers.

Another interesting recently announced casting is The Tudors and True Blood star James Frain, who will actually be playing Spock’s father, Sarek.

Other Star Trek: Discovery castings include Terry Serpico as a high-ranking Starfleet officer named Admiral Anderson; Maulik Pancholy as the chief medical officer on the starship Shenzhou, Dr. Nambue; and Sam Vartholomeos, who will play a Starfleet Academy junior officer assigned to the Shenzhou named Ensign Connor.

You can find much more related to the show, including a start of production video, right here if interested.

Star Trek: Discovery was originally slated to premiere a couple of months ago in January, but was delayed to May. Unfortunately for fans anxiously awaiting its arrival, it has been significantly delayed again since then. Now the expected release is sometime around late summer or early fall.

The pilot episode will air on the main CBS station, while the rest of the episodes of the first season will run exclusively on CBS’s streaming service CBS All Access.

  1. Fantastic, the first Star Trek series where the focus is not on the captain but on an officer who has diversity and sexual orientation issues. Marvelous. Make the new Star Trek about crew members with ‘issues’. What can possibly go wrong?
