I don’t normally make a habit out of reviewing or spotlighting every issue in a mini-series, but with this one I cannot seem to help it. Wonder Woman ’77 Meets The Bionic Woman #3 continues to astound me and make me nostalgic for my childhood. Additionally, with March being Women’s History Month, it only seems fitting that we celebrate these iconic characters. Though, to be fair, I plan on celebrating this series each and every month regardless.
Picking up where it left off last time, this issue starts off with Jamie learning to fly Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet. This issue has far less action in it than the others so far, but that is not to say that it was boring. Rather, it enabled the reader to gather information and moved the plot along at a nice clip. Interestingly enough, this issue held several references to the original television programs and specifically called out the episodes by name. This reminded me of comics from that era that seemed to always refer to previous issues and forced me as a kid to find older issues I might have missed. Marketing at its finest. Speaking of, maybe that is the point here, too. It has made me pull out my old Wonder Woman DVDs.
As per the norm in this series, it feels quite period specific. Enough references are made to keep the reader grounded in the seventies, but with enough tech thrown in to give it a distinct futuristic feeling. There are some comical elements that stand out and actually made me truly laugh out loud, effectively drawing me in further. I hesitate to give too much away for fear of ruining the story, but suffice to say that a lot of ground is covered but not in such away that I felt disconnected. If ever you were a fan of either television series, this is the comic book series for you. Much work has gone into recreating the panache that these ladies had on the small screen and it would be a shame if you were to miss out on it.
The Original Girl Power! Catching a missile after its launch is the least of the trials facing Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman) and Jaime Sommers (The Bionic Woman)! Now, their greatest television enemies have joined forces, and they’re building an army for their master plan! Wonder Woman and the Bionic Woman prepare for a trip to South America – passing through the Bermuda Triangle as they go – but the villains have other schemes.
All this, plus the return of Max, the Bionic Dog! Written by best-selling author ANDY MANGELS (Star Trek & Star Wars) and illustrated by JUDIT TONDORA (Grimm Fairy Tales), WONDER WOMAN ’77 MEETS THE BIONIC WOMAN has set the mainstream and internet media on fire… and the publicity keeps running!
