Legion is one of the best and far and away the most original new show of 2017. This afternoon, before its 6th episode airs tonight, FX announced the renewal of the series for a second season, accord to Variety. Based on the Marvel character created by Chris Claremont and Ben Sienkiewicz, the show was developed by Noah Hawley, who previously worked on FX’s Fargo.
Legion stars Dan Stevens as David Haller, an extremely powerful mutant with an unspecified and perhaps unlimited quantity of powers and abilities; amongst these are telepathy, telekinesis, teleportation, etc. David is helped by a group of mutants and psychics based out of an idilic resort in the woods called Summerland. At the same time he is being hunted by District 3, a government organization employing their own mutants.
Legion stands out from the rest of the cookie cutter comic book shows on television through its jaw-dropping creativity. The visual effects, sound design, and soundtrack are second to none. In his statement about the second season renewal, FX original programming co-President Eric Schrier called Legion “a stunning achievement” and a “wholly original take on the superhero genre.”
It’s unknown when the second season will begin filming or even how many episodes it will contain, but hopefully it follows the originality and lunacy of Season 1 thus far. Season 1 continues tonight at 10:00 only on FX.
