Indiegogo Spotlight: ‘Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon’ Sequel Comic
  |  @   |

We’ve been hearing about a sequel to the 2006 indie horror Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon since 2009, but the project has struggled to find a path to our eyes. Earlier this year the sequel—or “spreemake” as they’re calling it, described as “a mash-up of a sequel, prequel, and remake, that will deconstruct and comment on the archetypes of prequels, sequels and remakes” by director Scott Glosserman—which is titled Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon was once again teased, but some things need to go right before it can happen.

The first step is telling the story of the spreemake in an eight-issue comic, which is an adaptation of the movie’s script. An Indiegogo campaign has been launched for the project, and it serves two purposes: proving that fans actually want more Leslie Vernon, and providing a visual representation of the story they want to tell in the follow-up movie without actually making the movie.

You can read more about the crowdfunding campaign below.

OVERVIEW

You’ve been dying to know what happened to Leslie Vernon after you saw him pop back up in the morgue during the end credits of Behind the Mask and here’s your chance! The screenplay for our sequel, Before the Mask: the Return of Leslie Vernon is being transposed into a comic series and we are ready to unleash it on you, our fans!

The number of 1st edition 1st printing issues will be limited to the number of pre-orders via this campaign ONLY (exception of a handful to cast/crew/family/friends).

SHORT SUMMARY

The comics will be illustrated by artist Nathan Thomas Milliner who created a beautiful limited edition piece several years back that we previously sold through our B4TM webstore (see photo gallery)! We want to release all 8 issues in this series (this cover art is a working draft) and this funding campaign is the catalyst for upcoming projects…

All issues will be shipped with backing in a protective plastic sleeve.

WHAT WE NEED & WHAT YOU GET

Our initial goal is $18,000. This covers the costs for the first 3 issues.

We have a TON of perks! Not just the comics, either. We’re offering autographed copies of the issues, posters, shirts and best of all the opportunity to have a character named after you in an upcoming issue!

THE IMPACT

When we attempted to fund our sequel a few years ago, we heard you loud and clear. You want us to #BringLeslieBack! We want to make it happen just as badly as you do. This comic series is a vital stepping stone because it illustrates (literally) the vision for the movie while also proving the demand (assuming it sells!). Leveraging the movie’s 10th anniversary year is super important because there won’t be another chance like this to build momentum towards another film.

As of this writing nearly $10,000 of the $18,000 goal has been pledged with a month left to go, so things are looking promising for the first three issues. Where it goes from here and if it helps jump-start a new movie, we shall see.

Be sure to head over to the Before the Mask Indiegogo campaign page to throw in some coin if you want more Leslie Vernon!
