Pulp fiction is making a comeback! To be completely honest, I’m not sure if that is true or if I am just spouting alternative facts. Point is, I have been a fan of the Doc Savage franchise literally for decades and it’s resurgence is most exciting for me. This newest revival from Dynamite Entertainment comes in the form of Doc Savage: The Ring Of Fire #1!

Set in years before World War II, our story takes off quickly. Volcanoes erupt, nightmares occur, bad guys attack, people die. Few times in my life have I seen a first issue cover so much ground. It’s pacing itself is just like one of the old Kenneth Robeson Doc Savage stories! I freaking love it! Lots of information surrounded by amazing amounts of action. It’s everything pulp novels were meant to be.

This is the first of four issues and if the next three move at this pace, then we will have one hell of a tale. Something fishy is happening in the Atlantic and it’s way too close to a United States naval base for anyone’s comfort. So who does the President call but Doc Savage, of course. With his highly trained team of scientists and experts, he heads out to discover the source of these strange anomalies. What happens next is anyone’s guess!

1938: Amelia Earhart is missing, volcanoes are going off under US Navy bases, Silver Death’s Heads are trying to kill Doc Savage, and FDR is quite concerned about all of this. Return to the 1930s for a thrilling four-issue miniseries reuniting the Twilight Zone: The Shadow creative team of writer David Avallone and artist Dave Acosta!

  2. Absolutely my pleasure! Had I not been travelling for work, I would have gushed even more. The Man of Bronze is one of my favorite characters of all time.

  3. Great! I believe the rest of the series is very much more of the same, so I hope you like it.
