In 2015, IDW Publishing launched an ongoing comic book series for Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, based on the works of Douglas Adams. This was to be a lead-up to the BBC America television series of the same name, which debuted last year. After the first miniseries, the TV show’s executive producer Arvind Ethan David, who had been serving as co-editor on the comic, took over writing duties for the next arc “A Spoon Too Short,” with art by Ilias Kyriazis and colors by Charlie Kirchoff. This next wave also had the distinction of having Max Landis, the television show’s writer and executive producer, on board as executive producer.
Now, the Dirk Gently comic book series is on its third arc, “The Salmon of Doubt,” with the second creative team continuing on.
“The Salmon of Doubt” storyline incorporates elements from the television show, including the likeness of actors Samuel Barnett (Dirk) and Elijah Wood (Todd), as well as the Rowdy 3, Farah Black, Colonel Riggins, and more.

Being a long-time fan of writer Douglas Adams, I’ve been enjoying IDW’s ongoing Dirk Gently series and love that aspects of the TV show have been added in. I totally fell in love with the television series, and am eagerly awaiting Season 2. If you’re not already reading the comic book, you should definitely grab some back issues and jump on board.
The Rowdy 3 barge into Dirk and Sally’s lives again, making things particularly difficult for the Holistic Detective. Featuring favorite characters from the original books as well as the cast from the TV series, including Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood!
