‘Veep’ Director Signs On For ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ Remake Starring Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson
  |  @   |

It’s being reported that Chris Addison has signed on to direct a remake of the 1988 Steve Martin and Michael Caine comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for MGM.

The remake will be titled Nasty Women, and Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson are currently attached to star in the two lead roles.

The original told the story of crafty old British con artist (Caine) competing with an American newcomer to the con game (Martin) to swindle an heiress out of $50,000 in the French Riviera. The movie was directed by Frank Oz, best known to geeks as the voice of Yoda in the Star Wars universe. Other directorial credits include Little Shop of Horrors, What About Bob?, The Score, and Bowfinger. He also directed The Muppets Take Manhattan and co-directed The Dark Crystal with Jim Henson, whom he worked with numerous times voicing the characters Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal, Bert, Grover, Cookie Monster, and more.

For Nasty Women, the story will follow two opposites teaming up in an attempt to scam a tech prodigy out of his fortune.

Addison’s previous credits as a director are 13 episodes of the HBO political comedy Veep starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as well as an episode of the BBC political comedy The Thick of It with Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi, which was spun off with the movie In the Loop. The director has also done some acting, starring in In the Loop and episodes of Skins, The Thick of It, and Doctor Who.

The screenplay for Nasty Women is written by Jac Schaeffer (TiMER). Schaeffer previously penned a script for a movie titled The Shower, which follows a baby shower that’s interrupted by a large meteor shower. That movie was once set up at Warner Bros. with Hathaway attached to star and Addison attached to direct, but was eventually shelved.

No release window has been announced yet.
