Zack Snyder Talks Vaguely About Superman’s Return In ‘Justice League’

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Image 03

A world where the Justice League exists without Superman. It’s something we’ve all seen before whether it’s in the comics or on the small screen. But now Justice League, the big screen adaptation of the superhero ensemble, will present that idea to the audience.

The Man of Steel (Henry Cavill) has been missing for the better part of the marketing campaign and has not been seen in any of the released footage. But there is an explanation for all of that, and while Zack Snyder is not likely to spoil how Supes returns specifically, he will indulge those wondering with a few vague comments. Check out what he had to say about Superman’s absence and return in the full story below.

Snyder spoke to USA Today to address how the Justice League isn’t the same without the man wearing the big S:

“It’s hard to have a Justice League without Superman. That’s how I feel about it. It was always a super-intriguing concept to me to have this opportunity to have him make that sacrifice but also have him be this, in a weird sort of way, the why of Justice League: What do you do now with him? What does the team think? What does the world need? All that comes into play. It’s fun for us, but it’ll be interesting for audiences, what we do with him.”

Sure enough, Snyder did not provide the answer everyone is dying to know. So it’s more of a not if but when does Superman appear. Has Snyder learned his lesson from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? Will he prolong the Man of Steel’s return, or will he rise from the grave earlier than expected?

I joked that the over-under is around 30 minutes before the end of the film. But there is a chance that he may come back an entirely different person. Whether or not that is a good or bad remains to be seen. For one thing, Superman hasn’t been the boy scout we are used to seeing. Still, that brings an interesting idea to the table. Has death changed Superman? And what will it be like for the Justice League to see him come back to life?

Justice League also stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard, and Billy Crudup. It opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
