When Prison Break ended on May 24th, 2009, it seemed that finally brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield (Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller) could stop running and live their sweet life. After all the death, guns to the head, and betrayals at every turn, Paul Kellerman (Paul Adelstein) was the one to finally free them at the end, after being the main antagonist of the Company at the beginning. After Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) killed his mother, and General Krantz (Leon Russom) got arrested, Michael finally handed over Scylla to Kellerman (now Congressman), and he kept his end. Michael, Lincoln, Sara, Sucre (Amaury Nolasco), Mahone (William Fichtner), and C-Note (Rockmond Dunbar) signed their genuine freedom papers, and walked away. They sent T-Bag back (Robert Knepper) to Fox River. The epilogue showed him and his pocket, the general getting the electric chair, and C-Note as a happy UPS worker. Mahone was leaving his love, Agent Lang (Barbara Eve Harris), Sucre said goodbye to his daughter, and Lincoln said goodbye to Sofia (Danay Garcia). They all reunited with Sara and her son at the grave of Michael Scofield.

Spoilers below.

Prison Break: Sequel Episode 1 “Ogygia” review: Lincoln is in trouble again, running from some bad guys. Looks like his brother’s good influence did not last. T-Bag was finally released from Fox River, an exemplary prisoner. He received a mysterious piece of mail as he was leaving – the piece of mail in question, was a recent picture of Michael with a distinct looking building in the background. He goes to Lincoln with it, “It looks like your brother just might be alive.” Lincoln goes to Sara, and she shoots him down. Visiting Michael’s grave, he talks of false hope, but realizes that there are hidden clues in the message. “Ogygia” is where he is in Yemen. He needs more confirmation so digs up Michael’s empty grave.

T-Bag gets a notification for an appointment at a prosthetic research center at 9:30 at night. Somebody booked the doctor and the surgery. And T-Bag thinks it’s connected to Michael. He goes for it. He awakens with a robotic hand paid for by “Outis” (Nobody).

Lincoln’s car starts speeding by itself until it flies off the road and Lincoln flies through the window (great stunt). He calls Sara, and someone comes for them. Her new husband gets shot, but sirens scare the hitwoman away. Lincoln tells her he’s going to Yemen to find out the truth, and enlists C-Note (who converted to Islam) to help.

He is in the hardest prison in Yemen (of course). The name Michael Scofield means nothing, and looking at his IDs, it’s the wrong face. “Someone’s erasing him from history.” C-Note tries to talk him out of it, knowing how bad it is in Yemen. Sucre shows up and wants to come. But Lincoln puts him on standby, C-Note accompanies him. Someone who is not right picks them up. They are set up and have to fight their way out.

C-Npte: “Greetings from the US prison system bitches.” Sheba picks them up. The contact wants Lincoln’s passport in exchange for a visit to the prison. They show a picture. The name “Kaniel Outis” (from the suit in the grave) is being used. That is also the name of a big time terrorist in the country.

Sara: “Michael Scofield was like a storm.”

He walks up to the bars, “My name isn’t Michael, and I don’t know who you are.” Then he belies that statement, when he walks away and closes his eyes. .

The episode did a good job of catching new viewers up to the story (the basics), with scenes from years past sprinkled in.

I really liked the episode. Prison Break was always very farfetched in its conspiracy and life threatening moments, and this episode went right along (maybe even more realistic that the original). I’ve read the other reviews, and maybe it’s because I only recently watched the series that the nostalgia did not color it for me. It seems like a logical 5th season.

Notes:

– I love the new version of the opening theme song.

– I appreciate the fact that Sara mentions that the picture of Michael could be photoshopped. And that C-Note recorded Michael from his phone. Despite the lesser technology, I felt like in the original, there were oftentimes I shouted at the screen for the characters to take a picture (other than LJ – smart kid), or make a copy of something.

– Poor hubby Jacob. He’s either going to lose his wife or his life (my guess is the latter).

– I read about William Fichtner’s decision to not join the revival, because he wanted there to be a good reason for Mahone to join. I disagree. he is so talented, that any reason would have been believable.

– Robert Knepper – That is all.

Prison Break airs Tuesdays at 9:00pm ET on FOX.

Synopsis:

In the new event series PRISON BREAK, original series stars Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, Rockmond Dunbar and Paul Adelstein are reunited for an all-new adventure spanning the globe and featuring the signature thrills and cliffhangers that were hallmarks of the original series when it aired on FOX from 2005-2009.
