Disney and Lucasfilm have announced Star Wars Forces of Destiny, a series of animated shorts following some of the iconic characters of the franchise.

The actors who have portrayed some of the characters will be lending their voices to the new shorts as well, including Daisy Ridley (Rey), Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), and Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano), with Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata) narrating the series.

You can find more details on Forces of Destiny below, along with a first look video.

The “micro-series” comes from Lucasfilm Animation, and promises to remain true to Star Wars canon. It’s set to kick off in July with a series of shorts running about two to three minutes in length, and you’ll be able to watch these on Disney’s YouTube channel. That will be followed by a two-part TV special, including eight more shorts, airing on Disney Channel when fall rolls around.

Of the announcement Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said:

“Star Wars Forces of Destiny is for anyone who has been inspired by Leia’s heroism, Rey’s courage, or Ahsoka’s tenacity. We’re thrilled that so many of the original actors are reprising their roles in these shorts which capture the small moments and everyday decisions that shape who these characters are. It is a fun new way for people to experience Star Wars.”

In addition to the Star Wars Forces of Destiny animated shorts, a line of accompanying products have also been announced. These will include a line of action figures dubbed “adventure figures,” books, apparel, bedding, and various role-play items such as Rey’s staff and a new electronic Jedi power lightsaber toy as part of the Star Wars Bladebuilders system.

You can find more on all of this including some preview images of the animated series, adventure figures, and book covers over at the official Star Wars website.

A preview of Forces of Destiny will be shown at this weekend’s Star Wars Celebration in Orlando during the “Heroines of Star Wars“ panel on Friday, April 14.
