‘Cloak & Dagger’ Trailer: Teen-Friendly Show With A Marvel Superhero Hook
  |  @   |

Marvel Entertainment’s TV series aren’t exactly quality television. They’re pure escapism. The best way to describe these shows is cheesy, substandard, but somehow hypnotic and fun. That’s all before the fatigue starts to set in. That being said, it’s hard to deny the success of these shows with their being renewed for new seasons.

But now they are ready to dive into young adult territory with Cloak & Dagger. The new show will center on two teenage runaways who discover they have a mysterious connection to each other that allows them to access their superhuman powers. A trailer for the new show has been released, and you can check it out below.

Cloak & Dagger will have a ten one-hour episode run on Freeform. For those who are unfamiliar with the channel, Freeform is a family friendly based channel that airs shows like Pretty Little Liars. Their content is generally skewed towards teens. Which makes this the perfect show for the Disney-owned cable channel. Because all teenagers struggle through some life changing event, so why not over-dramatize it by having Marvel superheroes.

The titular duo made their first appearance in The Spectacular Spider-Man #84 in 1982. Tyrone “Ty” Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (Dagger) met in New York City as runaways. Cloak was someone who suffered from a speech impediment, while Dagger had a privileged upbringing. Both had their reasons for running away, and soon they had a lot in common. However, they were both kidnapped and subjected to drug tests which gave them superpowers. Cloak had the ability to create an aperture into the darkforce dimension and to dispatch people into the dimension. Use of this power created a “hunger,” which could only be suppressed when “feeding” either on light projected by Dagger or on light consumed from victims dispatched to the dimension of darkness. Dagger could project rays of light which has the ability to drain a person’s vitality. This light could also cure a person’s drug addiction.

As you can tell by their powers, this has all the makings of a YA-based show. But there is a slight twist to the show. While the two are indeed runaways, they will discover they are mysteriously linked to each other. Tandy Bowen will be played by Olivia Holt, while Tyrone Johnson will be played by Aubrey Joseph. Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito, and J.D. Evermore also star.

Cloak & Dagger is set to air sometime in early 2018.
