‘Avatar’ Sequels Have Release Dates… Again
  |  @   |

The Avatar sequels have been pushed back so many times it’s hard to even remember that there ever was an Avatar film to begin with. So the anticipation for said sequels may have waned a bit. Still, that hasn’t stopped James Cameron from pursuing these sequels. He has been working on the technology to perfect the visuals while also polishing the script. But now it looks like he is finally ready to head into production. The filmmaker has announced the release dates for all four sequels and released the first image of production. Check it out here below.

First, the release dates. The tentatively titled Avatar 2 will be released on December 18, 2020, with Avatar 3 in theaters a year later on December 17, 2021. Three years after that, Avatar 4 will open on December 20, 2024. Finally, Avatar 5 hits theaters on December 19, 2025. With these new dates, it should be interesting to see how studios will react with their own releases. Major studios did some shifting from their original release dates when Disney announced Star Wars: The Force Awakens would hit theaters December 2015. So it’s easy to see that happening again for any films that were scheduled around those dates.

Of course, these new dates mean nothing to most of us, considering we’ve heard about the film getting new release dates year after year. Still, one cannot overlook Avatar‘s 2.7 billion box office success. Sure it’s been well over eight years since the first film has been released, but there’s also the upcoming opening of Pandora: The World of Avatar in Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Florida.

The official Avatar Facebook page also announced that the films will be a concurrent production. Meaning all four of these sequels will be shot simultaneously. The post also released our first behind-the-scenes look at the film. So if you look at the left-hand corner, you may notice some people wearing motion-capture suits.

So we’ll just have to wait and see if these dates stick.
