As much as I’d like to avoid being political on posts, it’s hard not to draw wild parallels between the 2016 Presidential campaigns and what’s going on with Netflix’s House Of Cards. A new trailer for the upcoming fifth season highly acclaimed Netflix original series just dropped, and despite it taking place in a fictional world, one has to imagine that there are at least some similarities to what happened in the months leading up to the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.
There’s the charts, the maps, the scandals, and the terrifying notion that someone not only thinks lowly of the people of a nation, but also that he is planning to rule it for the foreseeable future. Check out the latest trailer for House Of Cards below. Oh, and of course minor spoilers will follow.
When we last left the Underwoods in Season 4, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) was in the middle of a heated election while also trying to keep his marriage with his wife, Clare (Robin Wright), intact. So in order to maintain the illusion of a healthy marriage while also gaining a political advantage, the husband and wife decide that they should run together as President and Vice President. And that was how the last season ended.
The new trailer is pretty much in the same vein as all the others, taking us into the dark side of politics while also giving us all the juicy drama we’ve come to love. After a poor showing in Season 3, Season 4 proved to be one of the series’ best, wrapping up some loose ends and finding new inventive ways to keep us glued to the show. Even the “One Nation, Underwood,” a dark twist on the Pledge of Allegiance, gives us a frightening insight into the mind that is Frank Underwood.
We’ll just have to wait and binge on whether or not the Underwoods can come out on top.
Michael Kelly, “‹Jayne Atkinson”‹, “‹Neve Campbell”‹, “‹”‹Derek “‹Cecil, Joel Kinnaman, and Paul Sparks“‹ also star.
All 13 episodes of House of Cards will be released exclusively on Netflix on May 30, 2017.
