‘Baby Driver’ Featurette: Edgar Wright’s Getaway Caper Is Driven By Music
  |  @   |

After receiving unanimous praise at SXSW earlier this year, Edgar Wright‘s new film Baby Driver has been bumped up to an earlier date. That is something we can all look forward to. In his fifth directorial effort, the film centers on Baby (Ansel Elgort), a young getaway driver who suffers from constant ringing in his ears. In order to drown it out, Baby plays music he gets from the cars he steals for his getaways. It’s what makes him the best in the business. But after discovering a new lease on life, Baby wants to get out after one last score. That is something his crime boss (Kevin Spacey) will not tolerate.

Now a newly released featurette takes a look at Baby and his relationship with his father-like figure psychopath crime boss, the crew he works with, and the love interest (Lily James). Check it out below.

We haven’t seen much of anything in terms of marketing, mainly just a trailer and some images. With Baby scheduled to hit theaters in June, it honestly feels like the film is flying under the radar. But we’ll probably get to see a lot more of it as we get closer to the release date. There have been plenty of films that have followed the same sort of campaigns and ended up being a huge success.

One thing that remains a big question is, how does the music drive the film. As Elgort says, “The entire movie moves to the tune of his soundtrack.” With Spacey adding “All of the bank robberies in the film, is driven by the music.” So it should be interesting to see how much of that is true. Based on very early reviews every gear shift, door shut, and tire screech will be synced up to the music. If that is the case, then Wright is truly a genius.

Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Elsa Gonzalez, and Jon Bernthal also star.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

A talented, young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. But after being coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.

Baby Driver drives into theaters on June 28.
