If you’re one of the few people on this planet of ours who has yet to play Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG hit Fallout 4, this weekend is your chance to take it for a test drive.

The game is available to play for free to those who do their gaming on Xbox and Steam from today, May 25th, to this Sunday, May 28th (early May 29th for some). The full game and season pass will also be available to purchase permanently at a discount if you dig your time playing for free. And while PlayStation players aren’t in on the free trial, they will have the same chance to purchase at a discount, which is very much worth your coin.

It’s time to start working on your Southie accent. This weekend we’re offering a trip to the Commonwealth, as Fallout 4 has its first-ever free weekend exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members starting at 12:01am PST on Thursday, May 25 and running to 11:59pm PST on Sunday, May 28. How do ya’ like them Dandy Boy Apples?

In addition to the free weekend, you can get the standard edition of Fallout 4 for 67% off for a limited time! You can even extend your stay with the Season Pass and Digital Deluxe versions that are also on sale (please see the Xbox Store for pricing and details). And should you decide to return to the Commonwealth at a later date, all your Xbox Live Achievements and progress made during the free weekend will be saved.

For now, get ready to shed your Vault 111 suit and prepare for a weekend full of seemingly endless quests with some recommended destinations we think you’ll find worth exploring.

Concord

The Commonwealth is known for its patriotism, so there’s no better place to start your journey than the Museum of Freedom in Concord. On top of being integral to “Out of Time,” one of Fallout 4″˜s main quests, your visit features some key moments of the early game. You’ll meet relentless quest-giver Preston Garvey, receive your first Power Armor suit, and even encounter your first Deathclaw.

Fun fact: As you explore the Museum of Freedom, look for paintings that feature developers from Bethesda Game Studios.

Diamond City

It’s been many decades since Diamond City was only known as one of the most revered stadiums in all of baseball. But for the past 150 years or so (starting in the 2130s), Diamond City has emerged as the “Jewel of the Commonwealth.”

On top of containing quests critical to completing Fallout 4, Diamond City is a great hub to return to for healing, haircuts, and one of heck of a meal from Takahashi’s Power Noodles shop located at the center of the stadium.

Worth your time: For an escapade unlike anything you’d experience at the real Fenway Park, we suggest taking on the questline “Painting the Town.” You choose to keep part of the park painted in its iconic color, or perhaps vandalize the park with another color.

Boston Common

When you finally make your way into downtown Boston, make a point to visit the many highlights of Boston Common. Critical to the “Road to Freedom” questline, tourists can catch some iconic Boston landmarks that include Old State House and Old North Church.

Be Careful: Right near Boston Common is Swan Pond. Even in a post-apocalyptic setting, the area seems serene, but we suggest not getting too close to the swan boats. Trust us.

Commonwealth Institute of Technology (CIT)

You’ll need to be more than a tourist to make your way into this prestigious center of academia. CIT has long been established as one of the country’s top centers for scientific research, but in the year 2110, a mysterious organization known as The Institute took command of the building.

Good luck: There is currently no known entrance to the Institute’s facilities.

USS Constitution

Built way back in 1797, this iconic ship has been a landmark in the Boston area for nearly 5,000 years. Playing in the year 2287, as you journey through the main quest of Fallout 4, the light-hearted side quest “Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution” is a must-play for any explorers of the Commonwealth. The ship’s crew are full-on unique, with hilarious personalities.

Pirate’s Booty: Completing Last Voyage of the U.S.S. Constitution will leave you with a Boston scenario that’s both appropriate and incredibly powerful.

We’re just scratching the surface with these recommendations. With hundreds of locations in the Commonwealth, and expanded areas available through add-ons like Far Harbor and Nuka-World, you’re going to have a wicked time in the Commonwealth.

This weekend you can explore everything a post-nuclear Boston has to offer with the first-ever Fallout 4 Free Weekend. From May 25 to 28, Xbox Live Gold Members and Steam users will be able to play all of Fallout 4’s base content and try out Mods for free.
