As far as the future for the Transformers franchise goes, well Paramount has that planned out. While Michael Bay will no longer be directing future entries after Transformers: The Last Knight, he has confirmed that there’s at least 14 more films currently being developed. One of those films is a Bumblebee spinoff, which has which has signedKubo and the Two String helmer Travis Knight to direct.
Now they may have found their lead star. Based on new reports, The Edge of Seventeen star Hailee Steinfeld is in talks for a role in the film. More on the story below.
THR says Steinfeld will play a tomboy who also holds a job as a mechanic after school. Christina Hodson, part of the Transformers shared universe writing team, wrote the script. However, while we know about Steinfeld’s character, we know little about Hodson’s script, which will obviously be a spinoff based on everyone’s favorite yellow and black Corvette. Still, that’s not surprising, considering the film is still in development.
Still, we can get an idea of what kind of film to expect. Steinfeld first burst onto the scene in True Grit, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. After that, she has had roles in films like the adaptation of Ender’s Game. She then followed that up by showing her singing talents in Pitch Perfect 2, and she will reprise her role in Pitch Perfect 3. She most recently appeared in the darling coming of age flick The Edge of Seventeen.
As for Hodson, she is attached to write the new reboot of The Fugitive. She has also written the scripts for The Eden Project and Shut In.
Travis Knight, who made his directorial debut with Kubo And The Two Strings, will helm the film.
The tentatively titled Bumblebee is slated for a June 8, 2018, release.
