Topical political satire is the trendy thing. Even Netflix’s House of Cards felt cut and pasted out of the newspaper headlines. So with climate change on everyone’s mind, and the same week President Donald Trump withdrew from the Paris Accords, we now get the brand new title for SyFy’s newest entry in the “in”famous Sharknado series… Sharknado 5: Global Swarming! The fifth film will debut on SyFy channel on August 6th, carrying the tagline, “Make America Bait Again.”
More below.
Written by Scott Mullen and again directed by Anthony C. Ferrante the movie will star series regulars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid as Finn and April. But who cares about the returning stars; the Sharknado franchise is all about who is showing up for cameos! This time the focus appears to be on world leaders, as Fabio will portray his holiness, the Pope; Chris Kattan from SNL will play the British Prime Minister and Charo as the Queen of England. Also listed on IMDb are Kathy Lee Gifford, Olivia Newton John, Bret Michaels and Margaret Cho.
The plot… because that’s what we all care about… focuses on Finn and April’s young son who is stuck in a Sharknado forcing them to travel the world seeking advice and help from heroes of all ilks. Their stops include places where climate change summits have been held, like Tokyo, Rio and of course a stop in Rome to see Pope Fabio… oh man, I can’t wait!
Sharknado 5: Global Warming debuts August 6th on Syfy.
