D23 Expo 2017: ‘The Incredibles 2’
  |  @   |

The Incredibles 2 is easily the most anticipated film out of the Pixar lineup. While the studio has had no problems with releasing sequels and prequels, finding the right story to tell for a new Incredibles film hasn’t been easy. But it looks like director Brad Bird has cracked the story, and now fans will get to see what the Parr family, or should I say The Incredibles, have been up to for the last 13 years give or take. Oh, and let’s not forget Frozone.

The presentation on Friday at this year’s D23 Expo first started out with a celebration of Enda Mode (Brad Bird) for all the great work she has done for superhero fashion. Check out the clip in the tweet below.

Before Pixar head John Lasseter talked more about the sequel, he invited The Incredibles 2 director Brad Bird to the stage. There they wanted to talk to the voice of Edna. Much to the surprise of the people around me, Bird revealed himself to be the voice.

But the film will follow up on an original idea that Bird and Teddy Newton have been working on since the first film. It will still be a film about a family with superpowers. “Incredibles 2 is really a family film, it’s just that the family happens to have super powers,” said Bird. “They may have super speed or super strength, but they experience the same problems as any family.”

Then Bird welcomed the Parr family to the stage, although you’ll notice a new voice actor for Dash. Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, and Samuel L. Jackson, return to voice Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, and Frozone, respectively. However, because Spencer Fox’s voice has gotten “deep,” newcomer Huck Milner will now voice Dash. Each of the actors gave a small piece of advice to him, with Jackson finishing it by saying “Never read the comments.”

The presentation then moved on to the only clip, which sees Mr. Incredible taking up babysitting duties. Like any good babysitter, he is asleep while some objectional material is on TV. So as Jack-Jack watches a robbery on TV, he sees a raccoon and notices its eyes resemble the mask that the robber is wearing on TV. In an effort to protect the household, Jack-Jack attacks the raccoon and showcases a variety of powers that include phasing through solid object, super strength, fire powers, telekinesis, and laser eyes. Despite that, the raccoon is still able to defend itself because Jack-Jack hasn’t had the proper training. But in one last ditch effort to defeat the raccoon, Jack-Jack starts to mulitply, and the raccoon is overwhelmed by the large number of babies.

That is when Mr. Incredible wakes up to realize that Jack-Jack has powers. Obviously he is excited that his son has powers, but then he realizes that he has powers.

We also got to see a little bit of the new Parr family household which has water flowing through the house and a lot of sharp edges to give it that modern house and superhero lair feel to it. Bird said it wasn’t exactly a house that is safe for a baby. But it will be a mid-century house with a modern design. They also put concept art for a “hydroliner ship” that looked like a massive yacht. It’s not clear who this belongs to though.

The Incredibles 2 is scheduled for a tentative June 15, 2018 release.
