Kingsman: The Golden Circle

The new trailer for Kingsman: The Golden Circle dropped earlier today, which was just in time for their Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The cast includes Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, and Sophie Cookson, all of whom are returning to reprise their roles of the agents of a super secret British spy organization. They will be joined by Halle Berry, Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Pedro Pascal, who serve as agents of the Statesman, the American version of the Kingsman. Julianne Moore is Poppy, the film’s villain. Matthew Vaughn also returns to direct the sequel.

When it comes to Hall H, you can almost always expect some new footage from the film, and the cast to give it some extra hype. There was also a video that saw this world crossing over with the animated comedy Archer. Check it out below.

The Kingsman panel started off with a brand new video that sees Eggsy, fully animated, running through London to get to the tailor shop. Now, that may seem like just an ordinary video, but it is who he meets at the shop the surprises him. Who else would be there other than the world’s greatest spy, Sterling Archer. Of course, the suave spy has no problem taunting Eggsy’s look, but since he doesn’t know how Kingsman’s fashion works, Eggsy let’s it slide. He then comments on how Archer shouldn’t be calling himself that publicly, to which Archer replies “then what’s the point?” That’s when Eggsy finds a cornucopia of Kingsman weapons at Archer’s feet. And from there we discover that the secret rooms in the tailor shop aren’t so secret.

The panel then went to its usual introductions. Vaughn was unable to attend since he is still putting the finishing touches on the film. Now that’s dedication. But there were some clips to show off.

In the first clip Eggsy exits the Kingsman shop where he is confronted by Edward Holcroft‘s Charlie who is wearing a hood and armed with a gun. As Eggsy is forced into the back of the car, he manages to take advantage of the situation. And soon a fight ensues between the two while a driver takes them to an unknown destination. As the fighting intensifies between the two, the skin on Charlie’s arm rips off revealing a robotic hand. That’s when the car door comes off and Eggsy falls out. Luckily he is able to use the car door just like a sled.

With other cars in hot pursuit, Eggsy is able to incapacitate the driver using his knife boot, forcing to crash the car, which sends Charlie right out the window. That’s when Eggsy takes over the driver’s seat and with the help of Merlin, he manages to escape his pursuers and lure them into a trap.

After the clip ends, Dave Gibbons, Jane Goldman, Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, and Jeff Bridges step out on stage. Barry said her character, named Ginger Ale, is the Merlin of the Statesman, as she offers tech support to her team. Bridge’s character is also a statesman. His name his Champagne, but he likes to be called Champ.

The second clip has Eggsy getting a tour of the Statesman facility, which also happens to be a whiskey distillery. Their investigation takes them to one of the rooms that is full of barrels of whisky. But Merlin is still suspicious of its contents, and when he breaks it open, it happens to alert Tatum’s character who is in a full cowboy getup. They have trouble fighting him, and Tatum’s character handles the both with ease.

The panel then shifted to the stage where Berry displays her ability to hold her liquor by chugging a whole pint glass of whiskey. It was then revealed that the film’s runtime would be about two hours and 15 minutes.

In the final clip we are introduced to Poppy (Julianne Moore), the film’s villain. She is one of the biggest drug cartels in the world, whose compound, which looks like a temple ruin, is located in a remote jungle, and at the heart of this is a good ol’ fashioned American diner. In this clip we get to see how ruthless she is as she is in a room with two other men. When she learns that one of them failed her, she says that he must be put through the meat grinder. As he tries to escape, he is captured by two other dogs and is knocked out by the second man in the room. He then puts the person through the meat grinder. As a reward, the man is given a Golden Circle tattoo and a burger, the contents of which contain the man that was just thrown in. So as you can imagine, Poppy has a sick sense of humor.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on September 22.
