SDCC 2017: ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Trailer Brings On The Thriller

Now that major films studios are leaving SDCC 2017, television has taken its place and invaded Hall H. While Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead have left their mark in the venue, Stranger Things took over for a portion of the day to amp up the crowd with a brand new trailer.
Check it out below.
By now, geeks everywhere are familiar with the Stranger Things craze. The film is pure sci-fi nostalgia wrapped in a Goonies cocoon. And based on the trailer, it looks like the kids of Hawkins, Indiana cannot escape from the creatures that lurk in the Upside Down.
The use of Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” assures us that there won’t be monsters dancing in sync. But the trailer is so upbeat, it offers a nice juxtaposition to the overall tone of the series.
As for the return of Will Byers, well, he’s seeing things that no one else is seeing. Considering that he has spent a great deal of time in the Upside Down, there’s no way he came out of that experience without some sort of scarring. While Will’s friends see an average fun time at the arcade – playing Dragon’s lair – Will sees a dark stormy red sky with a tentacle figure in the shadows.
Soon we see Will being examined by doctors, his mother with a frightened look at his bedside. As the trailer pans out, we see that the both of them are being watched. It’s not clear who it is, but it appears the government operation that failed to contain the situation in season one is back.
There are times we see Will with a blank stare on his face, and other times where he is profusely crying his eyes out in fear. That’s when the sinister laugh from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is overheard, and it plays at just the right moments. It’s a lot easier to get a sense of the trailer by watching it. But if you want the overall gist of it, just know that the Upside Down and the Real World are beginning to merge.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
Starring Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, and Charlie Heaton, all episodes of Stranger Things season 2 premieres on October 27, 2017.
