SDCC 2017: ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Is Out With The Old And In With The New
  |  @   |

Blade Runner 2049 is the sequel to Ridley Scott‘s sci-fi cult classic. Because the first film started in 2019, the panel projected a timeline of events that has happened in between the first film and now. A new line of replicants have been built, one of them being played by Dave Bautista‘s character, and while all of that exposition was nice. It was Jared Leto‘s entrance that really stole the show. He was there as a hologram. How could anyone beat that?

Check out more on their SDCC 2017 panel below.

After such a rousing intro, they played the recently released trailer to rile the crowd up some more. Then Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, and Lennie James walked out to talk about the film. Director Denis Villeneuve was also there in attendance. He says the reason why he took on the sequel was that he didn’t want anyone else to fuck it up.

While most of the film is still wrapped in a shroud of mystery, Ford explains he returned to the role of Deckard because the script was so well-written. But that’s when they showed everyone the SDCC 2017 exclusive clip.

In it, we see Agent K (Gosling) being guided through the pyramid like building by a replicant woman. She explains to him that the older models gave them a bad reputation, and they seek to restore it with the newer models. The scene also reveals K seeing some archived footage of Deckard’s interrogation from the first film.

Gosling is still shocked that he is a part of the sequel, seeing as it was one of the first films he watched as a kid.

Ford was asked if it was his life goal to reboot every major character he’s done, to which he replied “You bet your ass it is.”

The film also stars Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, and Robin Wright.

Blade Runner 2049 opens in theaters on October 6th, 2017.
